If i understand weeaboo as a term it s more than thinking japanese culture is superior it s thinking it s superior without really knowing anything about it without having studied it.
In japanese culture it s closer to being a nerd. It carries the sense of not having respect for the culture the individual purports to love. I m pretty sure there is knitting otakus and other normal hobbies. An otaku in western culture is just someone who watches more than the mainstream anime.
